Flap elevation

#11 was impacted in the palate and housed by bone completely. A sulcus incision was made from #9 to 12 mesial and a vertical incision was made at the mesiolingual line angle of #9. After flap elevation, a bony prominence was noticed on the apical area of #9 and 10.

Extracted canine

Odontomy was done with a highspeed bur. Piezo machine is not recommendable for the odontomy because of less cutting efficiency on a tooth compared to the highspeed bur.

I think the advantages of the piezoelectric machine are reduced risk of soft tissue damage and good visibility. However it is easy to break the tip when torque is applied to it and the heat generated by the function  can burn lip or cheek if a part of the tip is laid on it for a while during the surgery.

Generally I am happy with it. I strongly recommend the piezo. It will make your practice easier and better. Thanks a lot.

    Nice work.
How did you decide from which side (buccal or palatal) to approach from?

  2. Scott says:

Can you tell us a little bit more about the piezo machine you used?

  3. Gene says:

Actually palatal side bulged a bit compared to the contralateral side. It would’ve been better to have a CT scan. The piezo machine is Silfradent Surgybone from Italy. It will be available in US market in a couple of months. It seems to be better than Piezo Surgery in terms of power and heat control. Piezo Surgery sometimes stops temporarily due to the heat.

    Nicely done, Gene.
