Here are two cases that I did with mini implants.

In the case above, the patient had some extra space between the lower incisors.  Fortunately, the teeth were aligned so that orthodontics was not need prior to implant therapy.

The implant was placed under local anesthesia, as usual. The one-piece mini implant required reshaping or prepping of the abutment portion to place a temporary crown at the same time the mini implant was placed.

The final crown was PFM, impression taking and seating of the PFM was done in the usual manner as taking an impression and delivering of a PFM on a natural tooth.

In the case below, tooth #24 had Class III mobility.  The patient wanted to have an implant to replace the tooth.  The buccal plate was missing at the time of extraction of #24.  The socket was grafted with bovine bone mineral and allowed to heal for 6+ months.  Then a mini dental implant was placed in #24 area.  Again the abutment portion of the one piece mini implant had to be prepped and temporary crown was delivered.  The final crown was delivered about 4 months after placing the implant.  Sorry, no final radiograph is shown.

What was interesting about these mini implants was that they exhibited mobility when the patient returned for po check ups.  The mobility was present for several weeks.  Eventually, the mobility was gone and the implants were very solid when the final crowns were delivered.

How do you explain the initial mobility during the first few weeks?
Were they mobile immediately after the insertion?

My guess is that, since the implant has smaller surface for the cortical bone to hold on to, there is some mobility until the bone remodels and heals around the implants

How do people place these mini implants and load them immediately with overdentures? With a single crown, you can lighten up or remove any centric and lateral force on the mini implants. I wonder how these mini implants take the pressure of putting and taking off overdentures.
